Communion...The Holy Eucharist?
I am a student at a Bible College, and I am taking a course called "History of Christian Worship". While I am learning about the Early Church's Worship and reading the Bible I came across "Communion"or some of you would call it "The Lord's Supper" or another term for it would be "The Holy Eucharist". What does Eucharist mean? it is an act of thanksgiving, where the bread turns in Christ's body and wine turns into his blood (sounds a little weird eh?). But at the end it is an act of thanksgiving for Christ's sacrifice for us. When I read the Bible, the early church would celebrate communion every time they met, they would celebrate Christ's death and resurrection. What have we become today? It aches my heart when I see how scheduled we have become, to see that this only happens once or twice a year, why can't we do it every time we gather? Why does this have to be a super sad thing? My spirit longs for communion, for the body of Christ to come together and celebrate our salvation. Why don't we say more often: "Jesus, I remember what you did for me. THANK YOU!".
